High end vs High street

The main differences between the Givenchy advert and the H&M advert are:
  • The high end advert is in black and white which is a typical convention of a high end fashion advert as it adds simplicity to the advert which makes it easier for the audience to interpret. This is different to the high street where it uses a bright pop of colour to catch the audience attention.By the high end advert using black and white it adds connotations of sophistication and professionalism to the advert and the brand; however, by the high street advert having a pop of bright blue on their advert it connotes to the audience a sense of fun and excitement through their advert.
  •  Another difference in the conventions of these adverts is the written codes. On the H&M advert we see the slogan "go green wear blue" written in a sans-serif font.Adding slogans to the advert is a typical convention of a high street fashion advert as it is catchy and memorable for the audience as they see the ad. Additionally, on the H&M advert we see the H&M logo by adding this it links the well known brand logo to the adverts and gives the brand, brand identity. In contrast the Givenchy advert only contains the brand name which is a common convention of a high end advert as they are establishing the well know name of the brand and that is all they need to draw in the audience as they already know the name.
  • Linking to the previous point the use of font is different in the ads. In the high end advert we see the use of serif font which has connotation of formal and established. Whereas the high street advert uses a sans serif which connotes friendliness and fun which links to the use of bright colours in the advert.
