Manufacturing consent: Noam Chomsky argues that by and large this is how news media functions, But what does this mean? And why do newspapers want to manipulate us?

• Newspapers manipulate audiences so then we can share the same opinion as them
• By selling a viewpoint to the audience it makes us want to buy the newspaper 

Advantages of manipulation:

Constructs a target audience who just keeps coming back for more of the same thing

Constructs a hegemonic world view of constant collapse and contradiction, to keep us coming back for more.

Supports a particular political party, to construct a target audience who agree with the newspapers values.
