Ofcom- Funded by the companies that it regulates. Companies get regulated by Ofcom to make their product more reliable and trustworthy.

The regulation of radio is not explicit and hard to find.

The Watershed- After 9pm the shows get more explicit and classed as not suitable for children. Self regulated- nothing stopping them from putting shows on at any time but they do it to please their audience, and if children see anything explicit they it 'the parents fault'

How does Have you heard Georges Podcast? abide by OFCOM's regulatory framework?

Ensure- ensure a wide range of services and a wide appeal is available.

Maintain- maintain plurality in broadcasting.

Protect- Protect audiences from offensive or harmful material.

Protect- Protect audiences against unfairness or infringement of privacy.

  • Discussion of children dying.
  • The way he jumps between different topics quickly is insensitive
  • It brings up experiences of prison which could bring back trauma to certain people.
  • There are some bad language which some people may may find offensive.
  • It talks about violence.
  • The people he is talking about and naming are already in the public eye eg rappers
However, the fact that we have no visuals could make this less harmful.

The themes he is talking about are relatable to his target audience.- It is justified that he is talking about explicit topics such as children dying as he is raising awareness.

There is nothing in Have you heard Georges Podcast? that would harm anyone and is simply talking about real issues that affect real people.

How the UK changed Hip-Hop forever?

  • Sound effects are used in the opening of the first episode of things like cars and faded music which situates the audience at 'August 11th 1973' This could be slightly nostalgic to some audiences and can bring back good memories.
  • Additionally, the use of a mix of music extracts also integrates a younger audiences as well by playing songs by the likes of 'Central Cee' and also 'Jay-Z'
  • This could be seen as a form of escapism as it is nostalgic for some audiences and also the use of snippets of songs also can be seen as escapism as music is a big part of escapism for the audience.
  • This podcast with holds a lot of information so would more than like listen to this actively as the audience is mean to be intrigued in the information given
  • But also the vibe is quite casual and use of chatty voice and sound effects creates a casual feeling.
  • This is easy to access on all devices on the BBC sound app.
