Theories-

Stuart Hall - Representation- Stereotypes reflect a system of imbalance and inequality in out society. The more vulnerable a group is the more likely they are to be stereotyped.

In this part if the music video we are shown a girl walking alone and she looks sad, this could be building of the stereotype that women are vulnerable.

David Gauntlet- Identity- Media products provide audiences with elements of identity, which they can pick and choose what to take from it. Fashion, lifestyle, personality, the list is endless!

The audience could take inspiration from the representation of this mother figure in the music video and aspire to be like her (have a child in the future)

Liesbet van Zoonen- Feminist theory- Women are used as spectacle in media products to appeal to a perceived heterosexual audiences.

The music video contradicts and subverts this theory.
The role of this woman is not to appeal to a heterosexual male audience but to play along with the narrative.

bell hooks- Feminism is for everyone- The expectations made on women in society also affect men.
A complicated representation of masculinity
This shot shows Sam looking nervous, with this theory Sam is being seen as feminine by it being stereotypical of  woman.

Paul Gilroy- postcolonial theory- Certain groups are othered in society, and are excluded through a system of hegemonic and hierarchal power.
Fender is othered here by him being stood alone looking vulnerable due to the shot.

Lots of stereotypical representations of the working class. It is a stereotypical representation of a working class teens life.
